Abstract

Retirement represents a major restructuring of the functions that define the space of the life of a person and, therefore, requires flexibility and capacity of adaptation to the new conditions. Chieza (2008). Retirement can be viewed as a transition that involves the enlargement, the redefinition and change of roles, the extension of the time of retirement, is an event that will allow a temporal process and that it is required to take decisions, implement and take the consequences”. The centrality of work in relation to other elements, such as the family, in the definition of self-awareness is very different from one person to another, which implies that the transition to retirement can require different levels of restructuring itself.

The stage of preparation prior to the retirement coincides with a progressive clarification of the attitudes about retirement planning and the time and manner of their withdrawal from working life. At the time of retirement, the plans are more detailed, but the attitude tends to degenerate into anxiety and despair for the loss of their labour activity. Of course, the phase of preparation for retirement has a personal meaning different depending on the individual's history, and the centrality of the work activity performed. Retirement involves the loss of social contacts, but it is not yet clear the extent of loss, both in terms of extension of the social network, such as quality of support received. You should consider social support to distinguish the different sources (family, friends, etc.) and different types (emotional, instrumental, etc) of social support that affect the quality of life of the retired considering the aspect of the physical activity, health, education, power, intellectual activity, the activity physical, social, among other factors or important aspects of the retiree
