Detección de la presencia de larvas de Toxorhynchites sp (Díptera: Culicidae) como depredadoras sobre larvas de Aedes aegypti, (Díptera: Culicidae) vector del virus del dengue

En la búsqueda de una alternativa biológica para contrarrestar la enfermedad viral del dengue, se estudió el género Toxorhynchites sp, que según investigaciones previas, depreda a Aedes aegypti, vector del virus.
En esta primera fase del estudio, el objetivo fue detectar presencia de Toxorhynchites sp en El Salvador, identificar las áreas preferidas y verificar preliminarmente su potencial depredador sobre Aedes aegypti.
El género Toxorhynchites sp, depreda diariamente en promedio 12 larvas de “culícidos”. En la duración del ciclo de vida, los estadios larvarios; 3, 4, pupa y adulto, vivieron 3.6, 6.7, 6.2 y 13.4 días respectivamente. Los sitios preferidos por los adultos de Toxorhynchites sp, son ambientes rurales y urbanos, con vegetación principalmente frutales.
