Abstract

This text provides an overview of the construction process of the railway line to Zacatecoluca and the building of the train station in that town. This process is part of the macro project of building railways in eastern El Salvador, whose execution was carried out by the American company International Railways of Central America, known by its acronym in English as IRCA. The document seeks to understand the construction process of the track, to give an account of who was in charge of it and to provide an outline of the inauguration of the station in Zacatecoluca. Likewise, the text addresses the operation, commerce and daily life that was experienced in the station, which, after its inauguration, became one of the most important sites in the town and a space conducive to sociability between travelers and locals.
