Abstract

Professor Miguel De Castilla addresses in this paper the functions that university institutions must perform, such as: research, teaching and extension, which move circularly as a system and as a process. This relationship is known as the University Academic Model. De Castilla asserts that the profile of the level of development of the University Academic Models will be different according to each university, and in the same way they will be the same or similar to their social environment.

Regarding the relationships within the universities, there is a rupture and separation between the sciences taught in the classroom and the sciences from which the researchers start in the particular investigative processes. Regarding the university's relations with the economic and social sectors, the situation of separation and rupture is the same.

The situation of the contemporary University, both in highly developed and less developed countries, must comply with the entire Knowledge Society cycle.
