Abstract

In the following text we intend to make a joint reflection on the possibilities of music and musical practice to build spaces for positive peace and coexistence. This is based on the conviction that musical language can become a powerful communicative element and that musical communication can help to unite people, but also to divide them. Education is recognized as the main engine to guide our actions toward the use of musical practices that impact the improvement and welfare of individuals and people.

To this end, we wish to mention and recognize some projects that, by making use of the music and its learning, have been important instruments of social transformation towards more peaceful communities. The safeguarding of these initiatives and the design of new creative projects that make music a tool for building peace is one of the biggest challenges which musicians and music educators must face today.
