This essay focuses on the management of research in Bolivian universities. Initially, it highlights the confusion between the subsystems of regular and higher education in Bolivia, which complicates management and even university didactics. The purpose of the essay is to emphasize the importance of university research and examine the challenges it faces from academic and social dimensions, concluding with a critical and reflective contribution from the institutional perspective. The essay’s methodology involves creating a problematic framework based on documentary research. The research findings underscore the need to convince both society and university administrators of the value of research and the importance of adapting scientific advancements to address society's fundamental needs in the current context. Finally, solutions to these issues are proposed from the perspective of complex thinking.
