This work was carried out with the objective of characterizing the producing farms of the Valencia variety orange crop in the province of Chanchamayo, province of the department of Junín, Peru. We worked with a sample of 135 farms, taken from a population of 2,200 orange producers belonging to six districts of the province of Chanchamayo.
To obtain information from each farm, a structured survey was conducted that considered questions from the three dimensions of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social; in addition, interviews and visits to the farms.
The results showed that these are highly variable, and that 67% of the farms are under the responsibility of men. 44% of producers obtain yields ranging from 30 to 49t/ha and 54% have monthly incomes greater than S/. 2,500 Peruvian soles. 50% of the farms only work with oranges; and the vast majority have a single marketing channel. The 135 farms evaluated were grouped into four groups, the most important being group II (38.52%); followed by group III (37.04%), group I (21.48%) and group IV (2.96%).
