Abstract

The young people in the town of Choloma are a dominant social group, urging public policies that lead to improve their daily situation. This study highlights the specific and concrete reality of youth and the population´s segment that has the highest influence on municipality´s productive, social and political life. The research´s aim is to understand various dimensions of life in youths, in order to provide inputs for the development of municipal policies.

The methodological approach of the study is quantitative, cross-cutting, non-experimental design. The level of analysis is correlational, with no description.

Among the main results highlight that youths see themselves in a stage of "social moratorium". Currently, youths in Choloma that participated in the study are entirely dedicated to study, with very low percentage of them working, almost no participation in institutions or social organizations, very few acting as volunteers. They seem to be preparing themselves to perform some function in the future and "assume adult roles, the ideal man or woman prepared to face the world ", thus denoting their actions toward future roles not present ones.
