Abstract

The importance of this work is that, increasingly, the uncertainty of climate change, coupled with the increase of disasters, has an impact on the endogenous development of coastal locations in Mexico and Latin America. So this essay, aims to: discuss the economic, social and cultural impacts that the port of Alvarado, Veracruz 453 can suffer, in case the sea level suddenly increases its level by 5 meters. Our main objective is to geographically target vulnerable groups that are currently within the danger zone. It should be noted that in the quantitative methodological treatment the use of micro-data was used, while the qualitative techniques applied during the fieldwork sought to give a balanced representation to our interdisciplinary approach. Among the most pressing results, if the municipality of Alvarado suffered a flood of five meters above sea level, 240 km2 would be flooded, which represents a value of more than 75 million dollars.
