Instructions for Authors

Before submitting a manuscript to the Revista Iberoamericana de Bioeconomía y Cambio Climático (Ibero-American Journal of Bioeconomy and Climate Change), it is highly recommended that you review our scope, editorial policies, subject areas, and archive (backfiles) to ensure that the formatting and style details of your document strictly align with the journal's requirements. This will prevent unnecessary delays caused by formatting and style corrections requested by the journal at the beginning of the evaluation process. Our journal publishes in both Spanish and English. The journal adopts the international APA Standards for bibliographical references; therefore, all manuscripts must adhere to these guidelines throughout their text. When uploading metadata into the system, all authors must include their ORCID number and full institutional affiliation (written in full without abbreviations, followed by a comma and the country of origin).

All articles submitted for publication to REV. IBEROAM. BIOECON. CLIMATE CHANGE must meet the following standards:

  1. Originality: The work must be entirely unpublished and must not have been total or partially published in any other venue, except under strictly justified circumstances. Authors must complete the Declaration of Originality form found at the end of these instructions.

  2. Methodological Consistency: Ensured by the appropriate application of valid research methods and techniques.

  3. Subject Significance: The subject matter must explicitly inform or shed light on relevant issues within the fields of agricultural sciences, economics, and education.

  4. Predictable Impact: The study must demonstrate potential impact for a broad audience of both practitioners and academics.

  5. Writing Style: The manuscript must be written in a clear, concise, and organized style; personal jargon and localized expressions must be avoided.

  6. Equations: Equations must be generated using an equation editor, centered, and numbered consecutively in parentheses. Symbols for constants, variables, functions, as well as Latin or Greek letters within equations, must be italicized.

  7. Figures and Tables: All Figures and Tables must be explicitly cited within the main text. For Figures: the title, sequential numbering, description, and source (if not original) must be placed at the bottom of the graphic in 10-point Arial font. For Tables: the sequential numbering and description must be placed at the top, while the source/note font type must be placed below the table aligned to the left margin in 10-point Arial font.

  8. Units of Measurement: The units, dimensions, and symbols of the International System of Units (SI) must be strictly used.

Manuscript Processing Timeline

Once your manuscript is submitted, please take into account the following estimated timelines for each stage of the editorial process:

  • a) Allow five (5) days to receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of your manuscript. If you do not hear from us within this timeframe, please contact us immediately.

  • b) Allow fifteen (15) days to receive an editorial decision stating whether our Editorial Committee has assigned an academic editor and peer reviewers to your submission.

  • c) Allow twenty-five (25) days to receive the evaluation reports from the peer reviewers.

  • d) A period of 10 to 15 days (reaching Day 35) will be granted to address the comments from the reviewers and academic editor, and to draft the formal rebuttal letter indicating the line-by-line improvements implemented in the text.

  • e) Allow ten (10) days (reaching Day 40) to receive instructions regarding a second round of review or the formal conclusion of the first round.

  • f) Allow forty (40) days to receive the final acceptance or rejection notice.

Ultimately, your manuscript will be published within 10 to 15 days following final acceptance. The entire process generally spans between 45 and 55 days.

Any inquiries regarding a manuscript should be directed to Conrado Ronaldo Quiroz Medina at: conrado.quiroz@ev.unanleon.edu.ni

Our journal operates under an Article Processing Charge (APC) policy that enables the publication of high-value scientific papers at no cost to the authors.

Manuscript Types and Subject Areas (Section Policies)

Submissions to REV. IBEROAM. BIOECON. CAMBIO CLIM. must be typed using 1.5 line spacing (excluding Tables and Figures) in 11-point Times New Roman font throughout the entire document. Page margins must be set to 2.54 cm for the top, bottom, left, and right margins. Each page must be numbered in the lower right corner, and line numbering must restart at 1 on every page. The main section headings—Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods (or Methodology), Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, and Literature Cited—must be written in Title Case, bold, and left-aligned (11-point Times New Roman).

  • Research Article: An original and unpublished manuscript based on empirical research results. Articles must have a maximum length of 20 to 25 pages (including Tables and Figures) and must contain the following sections: 1) Title; 2) Authors; 3) Authors' institutional affiliation; 4) Corresponding author's postal and email address; 5) Abstract; 6) Keywords; 7) Introduction; 8) Materials and Methods; 9) Results and Discussion; 10) Conclusions; and 11) Literature Cited or Reference Bibliography.

  • Research Note: A concise document containing preliminary and significant findings that the author wishes to publish prior to the formal conclusion of the broader research project. It has a maximum length of eight (8) pages (including Tables and Figures) and maintains the same structural sections as a scientific article, except that sections 7 through 10 are merged into a continuous text block without individual section headings.

  • Review Article: A brief summary paper generated from the critical analysis of relevant and current issues for the scientific community, where the author provides an informed analysis and establishes conclusions on the topic. It must have a maximum length of 20 pages (including Tables and Figures). It contains sections 1 to 6 and section 11 of a standard scientific article. The core content development is organized into thematic sections according to the topic, from which discussion and conclusions are derived. It is essential to include a transparent review methodology aligned with the investigated topic.

Writing Format

  • Title: Must provide a clear and precise representation of the study in both English and Spanish, using a maximum of 25 words. It must be formatted in Title Case, bold, left-aligned, and must not include subtitles or abbreviations. If scientific names are included, they must comply with the standard taxonomic nomenclature and must not use accentuation on capitalized letters.

  • Authors: This information must be submitted in a separate document called the Cover Page. Names should be listed without academic degrees or job titles. Numerical superscripts must be appended to the end of each author's name to link them to their details immediately below, which must include the full name of their institution, official institutional address (including zip code), email addresses, and the identification of the corresponding author(s) in bold parentheses. The ORCID number is mandatory for all authors. Articles whose primary author lacks an institutional affiliation with an active research entity will not be accepted. It is mandatory for all authors and their respective institutional affiliations to be registered both on the attached cover page and within the OJS platform metadata. Authors who fail to register on the platform will not be listed in the published article, and names must follow the exact sequence indicated in the manuscript.

  • Abstract: A continuous text block presenting a summary of up to 250 words maximum. It must contain the justification, objectives, a brief description of the materials and methods used, key results, and conclusions. The text must be written consecutively without citing authors. Do not include citations. The sub-headings Background, Methodology, Results, and Conclusion must be highlighted in bold within the text block.

  • Keywords: Written immediately after the abstract to facilitate indexing in international databases and information systems. Select exactly five (5) keywords, avoiding words already used in the title. The scientific names of species mentioned in the abstract should not be reused as keywords. The use of the UNESCO Thesaurus is highly recommended.

  • Introduction: The content must directly address the specific topic and objectives of the research. It should clearly outline the problem, the significance of the study, the bibliographical background supporting the objectives, and the underlying hypotheses. Furthermore, the relevance, novelty, and regional or international implications of the research must be clearly stated.

  • Literature Review: Mandatory for studies that require the assessment or validation of specific economic/ecological theories or models that underpin the methodology and analytical tools. This section is exceptionally rigorous for review essays.

  • Materials and Methods: Includes a detailed description of the experimental site, materials, equipment, methods, techniques, and experimental designs deployed. The mentioned methodology must be described comprehensively to allow reproducibility.

  • Results and Discussion: Presents the empirical findings of the research and highlights similarities or divergences with previously published literature. The discussion must emphasize the cause-and-effect relationships derived from the data analysis.

  • Conclusions: Consists of concise statements derived from the most relevant results, directly addressing the established research objectives and hypotheses.

  • Literature Cited or Reference Bibliography: Must preferentially consist of recent bibliographic citations from high-impact peer-reviewed journals. Abstracts from conferences, congresses, or internal administrative reports should not be included; exceptionally, verifiable web pages may be cited. Incomplete references will not be accepted. It is highly recommended not to cite more than three monograph or textbook references. Every citation mentioned within the text must have a corresponding entry in the reference bibliography, strictly adopting the APA Style 7th edition.

General Editorial Remarks

  • Graphics and Data: Within the original document, Figures and Tables must strictly use the International System of Units (SI). Authors must also submit original graphic files separately in their native source program formats, allowing for editorial adjustments if necessary. If photographs are included, they must be original, scanned in high resolution, and uploaded as independent electronic files.

  • Figure Formatting: Figure titles must be formatted in Title Case and bold. For bar and pastel/pie charts, use contrasting fill textures with fine content lines (ensuring it does not degrade info readability); for line graphs, distinct markers and symbols must be used for each variable.

  • Table Formatting: Table titles must be formatted in Title Case and bold. Tables must not exceed a single page in length, and under no circumstances should they contain vertical gridlines. Only three horizontal lines are editorially accepted: the column headers are placed between the first two lines, and the third line is used to close the table. Tables must be numbered sequentially as they appear in the text and must contain all necessary data to be self-explanatory. Data must not be duplicated between Tables and Figures, and statistical comparisons (e.g., significance levels) must be embedded in both where applicable.

APA 7th Edition In-Text Citation Standards

  • Narrative Citations (Beginning or middle of text): Use the author's surname followed by the year of publication in parentheses; e.g., Winter (2002) or Lindsay and Cox (2001) for two authors.

  • Parenthetical Citations (End of text): Include both the surname and the year within parentheses separated by a comma; e.g., (Winter, 2002) or (Lindsay & Cox, 2001).

  • Multiple Authors: If the publication has three or more authors, use the surname of the first author followed by the abbreviation "et al." and the year; e.g., Tovar et al. (2002) or (Tovar et al., 2002).

  • Corporate Authors / Organizations: Use the full name or its official acronym; e.g., FAO (2002) or (FAO, 2002).

Reference List Formatting (APA 7th Edition)

The reference bibliography must be organized in strict alphabetical order. If a single author has multiple publications in the same year, differentiate them by appending lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.) to the year.

Periodical Articles

  1. List the author's surname followed by a comma and their first-name initials followed by a period. Separate multiple authors with semicolons or an ampersand (&) depending on system parameters. For organizations, use the full official name.

  2. Year of publication enclosed in parentheses followed by a period: (Year).

  3. Title of the article followed by a period.

  4. Name of the journal formatted in italics followed by a comma.

  5. Volume number (in italics), issue number enclosed in parentheses, a comma, and the complete page range separated by a hyphen; e.g., 8(43), 763–775.

  6. Append the active DOI link. For journals lacking a DOI, include the direct URL.
