Despite its natural and cultural wealth, the Yeguare region is marked by the poverty of its population and a continuous environmental deterioration, factors that restrict its economic growth and development. To counteract this fact, governmental and non-governmental actors have encouraged territorial management processes, without favorable or sustainable results. Based on an own categorization founded on the contributions of various theorists on Sustainable Local Development and on the territorial problems of the region, a link was made between the theory and the empirical evidence gathered through interviews. This process allowed to glimpse the endogenous and exogenous elements that, according to the perspective of the actors interviewed and referential statistics, enable and inhibit local development in the territory. With this analysis, it was perceived that the process of sociocultural, economic, political, institutional, technological, and natural transformation has influenced and, in some cases, damaged Yeguare’s Sustainable Local Development.
