Abstract

This research is dedicated to establishing the relationship between motivation, pre-competitive anxiety and sporting success in the team martial arts athletes (Judo, Karate-Do and Tae Kwon Do) by applying psychological tests for each variable and evaluating sports success through the expected result and that obtained in competition.

The results project that pre-competitive anxiety managed at an average value can drive athletes to reach the arousal, without preventing it from achieving good results in sport. The difference in motivation towards achievement in different teams is very noticeable; however, this does not guarantee that at a higher level of motivation, greater chances of sporting success. In addition, comparisons of anxiety and motivation are made between sexes where there are no significant differences; however, in this type of research, you should always recognize the impact of countless strange variables that can undermine the performance of the athlete.
