The presidential administration of Marco Aurelio Soto (1846-1908) entrusted the brothers Swiss-Italians Lorenzo and Francesco Durini Vasalli (1855-1905 and 1856-1920) mounting four sculptural ensembles to honor with them four distinguished Hondurans from the past who they left an indelible mark through their works in the first half of the 19th century. four heroes that to a great extent laid the foundations of the Honduran nation in that founding century, and that the Soto administration thought that by extolling them, it was also putting on record the ideas of nationality and progress that the State sought to instill in nineteenth-century Honduran society.
