Abstract

During the long public career of President and Captain-General José María Medina, he had relationships with different political figures. Among them the president and general José Trinidad cabins. José María Medina obtained his first notable position as an officer was assistant to the Omoa square with the rank of captain. Since January 1851 he was in this destination, perhaps before; during the last stage of the Lindo administration and continued in that rank during the cabin management. By chance of life and history, José María Medina was present and in command of the fortress of San Fernando VII in Omoa during the war between Guatemala and Honduras and had to face the invading force of Guatemalan President Rafael Race. Medina's enemies (especially those who participated in the campaign election of Marco A. Soto in 1903) after his tragic and unjust death by firing squad used the events in Omoa to smear him and create a historical narrative not only false but evil at the same time. But with good research, academic honesty, and documentation corrected for its role in the events at Omoa during that war and the position of the President Cabañas, acquitting him by investigating the case. The two met again during the Medina presidency, where he showed his gratitude to Cabañas by giving him a shelter and security in your country, thus removing the need to live in Costa Rica after the death of Gerardo Barrios. He protected him and ensured him a good income from the public treasury until his death (8 December). January 1871) where since 1866 he appears as the second chief of the army with the rank of division general.
