Abstract

This article discusses the history of the National School of Music directed by Rafael Coello Ramos and supported by the State of Honduras, which provided its services from 1910 to 1918. At its time it was the only artistic training institution in the country and as this represented an important contribution to society and a unique opportunity for the young. Starting in 1915, the school began to accept female students, who in a short time surpassed their male classmates in number, and consequently, the history of this educational center is also of interest for the history of women in Honduras. The research information has been written using sources from the period from 1910 to 1918, especially the annual reports of the Secretary of State in the Office of Public Instruction, the newspaper El Nuevo Tiempo and the weekly El Heraldo.
