Abstract

The banana crop is highly profitable with acceptable production and quality indexes. It represents an alternative export item in the region, mainly for the Central American market. The security that the crop provides to small, medium and large producers has been threatened by their disapproval because they are not exporting their harvest because the destination countries have requirements that they are not complying with. With the objective of identifying the causes of rejections that limit banana producers from exporting their product, this study was carried out in the period from September to November 2018. Surveys were conducted with six producers of banana farms in the area. It was identified that producers use sword sons as propagation material, all producers are suppliers of their own seeds obtained from the sons of adult plants, they do not store their seeds due to the deterioration it suffers. The most commonly used seed variety is dwarf plantain and CENSA ¾, the pathogen that most affects is Mycosphaerella fijiensis, which is managed chemically. The rejections that have occurred in previous years have been due to poor post-harvest handling, ripening, phytosanitary requirements in the countries of destination, and to a lesser extent, due to fungicide residuals. Currently, there have been no reports of rejections due to chemical residues
