Abstract

Children’s and Youth Literature (CYL) is a field of study dedicated to the creation and analysis of literary works for young readers. The book the hummingbird who wanted to write a novel, by Carlos Carrion, is an excellent example of how to apply the principles of Children’s and Youth Literature. The story follows the adventures of a hummingbird who seeks to write a novel, and during the process, important topics such as creativity, effort and perseverance are addressed. Through the use of literary devices such as metaphor and personification, the book captures the attention of young readers and encourages their imagination. In this sense, it is possible to conclude that the book complies with the principles of the CYL by using
accessible language and an interesting plot that attracts the public to which it is addressed. Likewise, The Hummingbird who wanted to write a novel, is an excellent work that illustrates how the principles of the CYL can be applied in the creation of literary works for children and young people, thus contributing to their training and development.
