Abstract

This paper aims to describe and analyze some challenges faced by safeguarding Mexico’s cultural heritage in Mexico, based on various contemporary problems faced by cultural institutions responsible for the protection, conservation, restoration, recovery and study of tangible and intangible heritage in the country.
Likewise, a series of proposals can be enforced to solve these dilemmas and contribute to safeguarding the national cultural heritage. Among the most relevant proposals is a scrupulous revision of the Federal Law on Monuments and Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Zones, five decades after its promulgation, the revaluation of intangible expressions of culture, such as the awareness of society about the importance of safeguarding the tangible and intangible cultural heritage in Mexico.
