Abstract

In this text, the field of ethnopsychology will be worked on, which criticizes the situation experienced by different indigenous peoples. Communities also can reflect, not from a Eurocentric position, but to their identity in mental health in the processes of construction of the social tissue.

In this sense, this text aims to explore ethnopsychology as a space of knowledge that allows opening new debates on the topic by making a description of the object of study of this discipline, the tools that must be used in its studies and proposes that this knowledge is vital to give a voice to indigenous communities from their ancestral knowledge.

For this purpose, a qualitative methodological approach is adopted, which is characterized by its descriptive nature. An exhaustive review of texts related to ethnopsychology is carried out, focusing on the importance of the topics treated by this discipline for ancestral communities in Colombia. These issues are vital for communities that have experienced the impact of violence in recent times. These communities have suffered a gradual loss of their traditions, autonomy and connection with nature. Although Colombia has legislation that aims to protect the rights of indigenous peoples, in practice it is not implemented effectively, resulting in significant mental health problems. It is imperative to address these issues from diverse perspectives within the field of ethnopsychology.
