Pearl Lagoon community is located in Laguna de Perlas Municipality in the Autonomous Region of the Nicaraguan South Caribbean Coast, on the shore of the largest lagoon in the country and the second largest in the Americas, with an area of 532 km2. In its environment several ecosystems interact, including mangroves, which have many functions for aquaculture, terrestrial and aerial species as one of their main habitat. The current investigation tries to identify the anthropogenic activities that are carried out in the mangroves and their effects on the ecosystem, in addition to proposing protection measures allowing the ecosystem to regenerate to continue providing the ecosystem services to the fauna and flora, as well as to the human being and its communities.Relevant information was collected through interviews, bibliographic documentation and visits to the mangroves, in order to make direct observations of the ecosystem to determine the anthropogenic effects and compare with what is detailed by the people interviewed. It was determined that the anthropogenic effects have caused the deterioration of the mangroves of the Pearl Lagoon community, however, the community argue that the use of these has been reduced because they have received workshops and awareness talks related to the importance of the conservation of the swamps. In this context, some additional mangrove ecosystem conservation measures are recommended.
