Gorgonians (Octocorallia: Alcyonacea) from shallow waters of El Salvador

Rocky reefs are ecologicaly importants as areas of foraging, refuge and reproduction. This ecosystem is widely represented in El Salvador and it has complex gorgonian communities. Aiming to update the richness of species of this group, SCUBA diving was perform in 29 sites on the salvadorean coast, collecting colonies with the help of a chisel and hammer, to be examinated and identified with literature specifies for the region. Total, was found 20 species of octocorals, represented in two families, 17 of them are new registers for El Salvador.
