Current conservation status of waterbirds in El Salvador

The current status of aquatic birds from El Salvador is documented for a total of 150 species, which are belonging to 26 families and 11 taxonomic orders. Of these, 68 are non-breeding (migratory) visitors, 27 are breeding residents, 20 are migratory vagrants, 15 maintain migrant and resident populations; 13 species are transient and seven species are no migratory vagrants. Ten species are considered almost threatened and two as vulnerable worldwide (Ardenna creatopus and Agamia agami). A total of 16 new species of waterfowl are registered for El Salvador since 2007 and the occurrence of 22 more species is expected.
