Male-female dialectic. Practices and discourses that perpetuate gender violence in El Salvador

This academic essay aims to guide an epistemic review of the historical violence that women have suffered, due to their gender condition. The analysis starts from the reflection of gender itself as a social construction framed in a context such as the salvadorian one, which for the author is the genesis of the problem, since women are immersed in a framework of unequal power relations that subjugates and subdues them. In the same way, an attempt is made to explain how the configuration of both the masculine and the feminine in this context promotes stereotypes, sexist prejudices and discriminatory cultural norms that can explain the different forms of violence against women. Finally, this essay aims to establish a critical stance, from a gender perspective and transformation of hegemonic masculinities, which allows the production of useful knowledge that serves to design ingenious strategies that contribute to transforming the reality of salvadorian women.
