Abstract

The purpose of the review of the existing literature on the subject of ecological sustainability in textile product development is part of a larger project investigating the development of mathematical models to establish the parameters of design and production of ecological sustainable textiles.

Within the primary objectives of this literature review is not only to establish the theoretical framework for the development of mathematical models but also increase consumer awareness about the need to institute practices of design and production of textile products more friendly to the environment environment to decrease the negative environmental impact currently caused by textile and clothing industries that have not adopted these practices.

The textile market is in sharp ecological sustainable development and environmental awareness of consumers is increased as observed damage caused by climate change.

The textile and clothing companies have at their disposal possibilities for the transformation of industry towards sustainable and ecological paradigms. Among these tools are the eco-design that can be used in combination with functional design, new process engineering practices with ecological approach, recycling, wide range of organic, non-toxic for human consumption and environmentally friendly.
