Abstract

Water is the key medium for addressing the real meaning of climate action. The inevitable consequences of climate change, natural disasters, and extreme events have called our existence into question, and we cannot deny the truth. There is an urgent need for action to save Mother Earth so that we can all survive and thrive. Water security in terms of quantity and quality is essential to achieve global development and sustainability goals. This article examines the role and potential of technology and innovation (TI) as key enablers of catalytic change in the global achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Some viable alternatives to overcome these challenges are exposed, with a focus on the distribution and supply of drinking water and sanitation, the application of Artificial Intelligence, AI-based water solutions, some innovative technologies and practices for water challenges and sanitation implemented, giving us as a result that without an integrated management of water resources it will be very difficult to get ahead.
