This research aims to assess the situation, challenges, limitations, and necessary skills to strengthen academic research in El Salvador. It focuses on analyzing the status and relevance of academic research within the context of national issues, identifying the main obstacles it faces, and determining the essential competencies for generating significant knowledge. The findings reveal a diversity in the research focus of the centers, ranging from environmental studies to legal sciences and art, reflecting a valuable multidisciplinary approach. The variety in research fields, from engineering to social sciences, allows for addressing complex problems from different perspectives, though it presents the challenge of encouraging effective interdisciplinary collaboration. The research primarily targets the general population and governmental entities, emphasizing its practical applicability and impact on policymaking. Studies in areas such as economics, education, and technology are particularly valued for their contribution to social and political development. The reliance on internal funding limits the diversity of funding sources for research and potentially restricts the execution of more ambitious projects. The challenges in research in El Salvador, including the scarcity of researchers and resources, as well as political uncertainty, highlight the need for a more supportive research environment. This underlines the importance of promoting training and development programs that enhance research methodologies and scientific communication.
