Introduction: the perception of violence by fans attending sports matches in stadiums is of utmost importance for understanding the phenomenon in social terms. Objective: the purpose of this study is to examine the factors that contribute to create the perspective of violence on the part of the fans who attended the soccer match held between Olimpia of Honduras and Atlas of Mexico at the Francisco Morazán stadium in San Pedro Sula. Method: a quantitative descriptive/correlational study with a cross-sectional design. The instrument used for data collection was a self developed scale with moderate reliability, in which two dimensions were taken into account: actions of the fans (AA) and actions of players and referees (AJA). Results: the study showed that the behaviors of the main actors, both players and referees, have the capacity to moderate or intensify aggressive behaviors during matches, either before the match or through interactions in digital media. Conclusions: the findings of this study can guide the development of more robust security strategies in soccer events, as well as promote educational and awareness-raising initiatives focused on mitigating violence in sports stadiums.
