Abstract

This paper is part of a wider research about history of university education in El Salvador. It contents, in first place, an overview of the beginnings of education at university level in El Salvador; in second place, the text studies the origin of upper education in Santa Ana, a western region of El Salvador. In general terms, it can be said that is not until the sixties of last century when we have notice about university education there, and it is in the first years of the eighties when some of the today universities appear in the western region of El Salvador.
