The academic offerings of the higher education institutions in Santa Ana are highly conservative and traditional. Its highlights are on economics, education sciences, engineering and law, even if not all the universities taught those sciences.
There is a little innovation in academic offerings, but some of the universities are involved in a renewing process, according to the challenges of globalization and posmodernity, and of the social, economical and environmental requierements of the country, as well. In this way, we can see the raising of new academic offerings, as local development, tourism sciences, and geophisics. So,there are some universities that make efforts to overcome educational conservatism, although they can not superate the dominant and reduced view of higher education, that is to say, the university is only an institution to prepare professional people.
