Vicarious satisfaction

Vicarious thinking is a concept derived from Albert Bandura's social learning theory. This theory holds that people learn by observing and imitating behaviors present in their social environment. Its application varies according to the archetypes that are manifested in everyday life and that allow for conscious or unconscious substitutions. The study on “vicarious satisfaction” presented in this article is based on an empirical theoretical basis and on the observation of social behaviors, supported by a field survey in which processes of mental substitution of frustrations are verified by means of new subjects and compensatory phenomena. For five years, public opinion measurements were carried out from a social psychology approach, following the model of studies on Social and Political Humor. From these measurements, we began to observe a political phenomenon considered absurd or lacking in logical reasoning, in which respondents showed a fanatical and significant preference for a specific political case. Finally, it was decided to conduct a verification study whose findings are shared in this paper. The results confirm that vicarious satisfaction is a real phenomenon, as demonstrated by the latest Social and Political Humor survey.
