Abstract

The project "Reading and Writing Skills in 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Children at San José School, Santa Rosa de Copán" arose as a response to the need to promote reading and writing skills in rural learning environments. Developed by the Department of Humanities at UNAH-Copán, in conjunction with the educational community of San José School, the main objective of this initiative was to promote children's reflective, creative, and autonomous approach to reading. It proposes that early and meaningful access to reading can transform children's cognitive, cultural, and emotional skills. Through the analysis of this experience, the need for contextualized, analytical, and humane education is argued, one that transcends traditional school content and promotes imagination, identity, and social justice in the classroom in vulnerable contexts.
