This study was carried out in the municipality of San Lucas, located in the department of Madriz, Nicaragua to analyze the sustainable livelihoods of families served by the Institute for Human Promotion, from 2017 to 2022. The study has a mixed approach and is cross-sectional and observational in design. To collect the information, a sample of 132 families were surveyed using instruments previously validated by experts with a Cronbach Alpha of 0.8623. In addition, five interviews and three focus groups were applied. For the analysis of the information, the version 25 SPSS statistical package was used, with triangulation of the information. A multivariate statistical analysis (principal components, cluster analysis and discriminant analysis) was also carried out. The study found that social and financial capital are the least developed in the community, with the main sources of income being crops, labor, remittances, and livestock, which meet needs such as food, education, healthcare, clothing, and basic services. Regarding basic services in homes, the problem lies in access to drinking water, as the population's access to limited resources makes them vulnerable to contracting diseases that harm their health. The study proposes improvement of the technical capacities of producers and their families (human capital) on the one hand, in addition to managing water, soil, and biodiversity resources (natural capital) under a rationale of sustainability.
