Preconception care: gaps in sexual and reproductive health care El Salvador

Abstract

Introduction. In El Salvador, maternal and child mortality has been described, but no look has been given to preconceptional care, which is part of the continuum of care, being important for the prevention and management of the objective maternal risk. Identify gaps in preconceptional care in different contexts through bibliographic search.
Methodology. Systematic review from Search in PUBMED, Scielo, Virtual Library in Health (BVS) as well as national university repositories, with search words "preconception", "preconceptional risk" and "preconceptional care". These were analyzed preferably by squrating descriptive studies, and bibliographic review applying checklist drawn from THE STROBE checklist.
Result. 12 documents of interest 7 international, 4 national theses and 1 attention guide. Main preconceptional risks in different contexts in El Salvador: Obesity, diabetes mellitus type 2, high blood pressure, urinary tract infection. Coinciding with some international studies, especially hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
Conclusion. One of the gaps is that preconceptional attention, in practice focuses mainly on the reproductive role of women, ignoring the man within this process.
