Abstract

The research aims to answer the question: ¿What are the challenges of women mayors to achieve local government and lead development, in contexts where patriarchal culture is rooted? This research tries to glimpse: the political participation of women in social contexts, sociocultural determining factors and the political vision of development with a gender perspective. For this study, it has taken a reference sample of the population and two mayoralties led by women in two municipalities, as well as two community leaders, from the Department of Santa Bárbara. For your better understanding, is projected a question that leads us to know the elements that the population determines on the participation of women in political power due to the disadvantage of being a woman, considerating that they live in a deeplyrooted patriarchal society. Furthermore, how this fact impacts on Local Development. In order to delve into the problem, a characterization of the contexts is made, which the women mayors of the municipalities of San Nicolás and Santa Bárbara, respectively, are submerged. The study details the actions they carry out.
