This work presents a calculation of the potential recharge of the surficial aquifer located in Isla de Méndez, Jiquilisco, Usulután; using the Soil Balance methodology of Gunter Schosinsky (2000), considering the variables of the hydrogeological cycle and hydraulic characteristics of the area. The research was conducted with the objective of carrying out a hydrogeological study that could allow to know he recharge of the aquifer, groundwater dynamics, and the characteristics and physical-chemical parameters. The potential recharge of the aquifer in the study area was determined with the help of infiltration tests at constant and variable head (26.4 km2), resulting in a general value of 503.78 mm / year, at an infiltration flow (Rp) of 420 liters / s. Through the physical-chemical analysis of the groundwater, it was established that the quality of the sampled water did not comply with Salvadoran standards of mandatory regulations for Drinking Water. Therefore, it becomes necessary to apply water purification methods for its use. The reason for the observed s anomalous water values also needs to be investigated, since the quality of the water can be influenced by natural or anthropogenic factors.
