This research aimed to analyze the effect of a Propaedeutic Course on Mathematics on student’s academic performance and on efficiency indicators (pass, fail and dropout rates) in the FFM1301 Mathematic course, furthermore, analyze the impact on the development of numeric and problem-solving abilities. Therefore, two quasi-experimental studies and one relational were designed; the first follows a study and control group design, the second follows a pretest and posttest design for one group and the third is a test of association among variables. It was found that the Propaedeutic Course has a favorable impact on all variables studied: the average academic performance in FFM1301 of the study group is statistically equal to the control group, the efficiency indicators in FFM1301 were more favorable to the study group, and a statistically significant increase in numerical and problem solving ability was observed.
