Background: he complex interactions experienced by agricultural crops such as pipián make themvulnerable to attack by phytophagous insects. Jatropha curcas extracts have been avaluated for agricultural crops pest management, proving to be a viable alternative for crop protection. This study was carried to evaluate the population dynamics of insects associated with the cultivation of Cucurbita angiosperma, under the application of two botanical insecticides based on Jatropha curcas. Methodology: The trial was conducted using a completely randomized block design (CRBD), in which extracts from J. curcas leaves and seeds were evaluated, plus a control in an area of 414 m2. Each treatment was established in 136.8 m2 with a space of 45.6 m2 per experimental unit. Evaluations were carried out on 72 plants for the entire trial using simple random sampling, where the absolute abundance and richness of phytophagous, detritivorous, and beneficial insects associated with the crop were evaluated. Results: Sixteen insect families belonging to seven orders were found, exhibiting phytophagous, insectivorous, and detritivorous feeding habits. Leaf and stem extracts (86.22 y 87.44 individuals) significantly reduced the populations of phytophagous insects
in the pipián crop (118.11 individuals, control) (p=0.003). Conclusion: Applications of extracts made from Jatropha curcas caused changes in the population dynamics of insects associated with Cucurbita angiosperma, showing a significant difference in the population dynamics of insect pests in terms of the effect of the extracts applied.
