Abstract

Kipla Sait Tasbaika is the only indigenous territory of the Bosawas reserve that has a population pertaining to ethnic Miskitos and Mayagnas. This article analyzes the geographical distribution of toponyms affiliated with the languages of these two ethnic groups. This territory is a part of the interior lands that were originally inhabited by the Mayagnas. But from the XVII century on, the Rio Coco served as the route to Miskito colonization. This Miskito penetration into Kipla Sait Tasbaika could be reflected in the toponymy, therefore the analysis is directed towards the observation of the patterns od distribution, mainly from North to South.
