This study conducted from 2008 until the dry season of 2012 presents the results of a monitoring on the status of aquatic macroinvertebrate (MAIA) populations and their bioindicator value in four micro-watersheds: Lunku Creek, Walpatara, El Pool and Esconfran. These micro-watersheds are located in the surroundings of the city of Bluefields, and the main problems they present are the reduction of vegetation cover and population growth. The study found that the most critical areas in both the dry and rainy seasons were the middle and lower parts of the Walpatara and Pool micro-watersheds. In these sites, the water quality is doubtful, i.e., they are moderately polluted waters.
