Ethnic Identity and elections: the Case of the RAAN
Keywords:
Indigenous population, Multiculturalism, Politics, Political participation, VotingAbstract
Mario Rizo focuses his attention on the election process in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN), offering elements of judgment to understand the results of the elections in that area of the country. His article exposes, above all, the actions of the FSLN which laid the foundations to explain the majority vote of the Miskito people against that party. Rizo analyzes the pre-election campaign and the speeches of the various political entities that acted in the region. The latter reflect quite faithfully the reality of the RAAN and, in addition, the late concern of the FSLN to adapt its electoral discourse to the complex socio-political, cultural and religious conditions of the area.
