The autonomy process
Realities, challenges and alternatives
Keywords:
Autonomy, Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, Legislation, Local administrationAbstract
Last May 4 marked one year since the installation of the first autonomous governments in the Nicaraguan Caribbean. The relevance of this political project (unique for our continent and which even makes contributions to the state treatment of the ethnic-national question, by trying to satisfy the demands of ethnic minorities) makes it necessary at least to try to contribute to its evaluation. To point out some of the challenges it is currently facing and to seek alternatives for its consolidation. Since the installation of the regional authorities, the motto of self-government and the problems linked to its implementation have been present, albeit with ups and downs, on the agenda of national problems that arouse the interest and attention of representative sectors of society, due to their characteristics, complexity, relevance and topicality.
