The book The Surprising Adventures of John Roach, which we will offer in two installments to Wani readers, has been translated from English by Dr. Jaime Incer Barquero, well known in the Nicaraguan and foreign intellectual sphere for his contributions to the knowledge of Nicaragua. In this work we can distinguish three moments: the adventures of the author; the descriptions of the customs of ulwas and kukras, and a moral and evaluative painting of these indigenous peoples. The author of the book is practically unknown to us, except for what he himself says in the preface of his work. However, we doubt the veracity of these data. We know, in fact, of a later edition of the same piece, published by John Rhodes, in which different biographical details and a slightly broader content of the story are given. We can suppose, then, that the author hid his true identity for reasons we do not know.
