The document presented here was extracted from a more ample rapport carried out by the company ERM by requirement of the Canal de Nicaragua Project executory authority. The general title of the rapport is: Canal de Nicaragua: Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (also referred to as ESIA). The segment here translated to Spanish is an assessment of the negative effects that the projected channel would have on the rama-kriol indigenous people as well as recommendations of measures to mitigate those effects. Among the main concerns are: traditional land tenure and use of natural resources, everyday life activities, cultural practices, and the precarious survival of language and identity. The content of the rapport was approved by the Nicaraguan government in November 2015 together with the recommendations contained on it. Some of these recommendations concerns additional investigations that are carried out in 2016.
