Abstract

The majority of the population of the Laguna de Perlas community is Creole, one of the Nicaraguan ethnic groups most closely related to the African phenotype and sociocultural identity. In this community, traditional medicine is a specialty with a broad profile in the cosmovision of these community members (natural resources, human being, God), who use ancestral techniques and procedures for health promotion, disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Natural and traditional medicine is being integrated harmoniously with the conventional medicine of the Nicaraguan health system in Pearl Lagoon.
