Solidarity and electricity subsidy in Honduras: between legitimacy and citizen consent

Abstract

The Government of Honduras proposed a 100% subsidy to all users with consumption of less than 150 kWh/month. The subsidy will have an impact of approximately 300 million Lempiras per month considering calculations prepared by the author, with data from the sector's institutions and that include the number of users stratified by consumption sector, average consumption, and applied rate. The levels of poverty make the subsidy legitimate, but it should be applied based on the consent of consumers informed about the effects of said process.
