We are close to the end of the year that commemorates the bicentennial of independence from Spain. The beginning of republican life was a tumultuous time, but necessary in the framework of the Central American historical context. It may seem that independence from the Spanish Empire was the conclusion of a process of enlightenment and emancipation, although it marked the beginning of a process, and for this reason it deserves recognition as a milestone. However, we must bear in mind that the independence of the European political domain did not imply the settlement of its cultural and academic influence.
