Towards the circular economy: an analysis of the sustainable business sector in Honduras

Introduction. Sustainable economy balances economic growth with environmental preservation, responding to growing social awareness. This drives organizations to develop quality models and infrastructure targeting ethics, corporate social responsibility (CSR), Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), environmental, social and governance (ESG), global reporting initiative (GRI) and actions that contribute to reduce climate change. The study aim was to analyze the sustainable economy sector of six companies from different sectors in Honduras. Methods. The research approach was mixed with a descriptive scope that analyzed the universe of six sustainable reports of companies from different sectors in the sustainable economy sector in Honduras, using the metrics of Fundación Hondureña de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (FUNDAHRSE). The study was developed in the following phases: diagnostic phase, statistical analysis phase, discussion phase and conclusions. Results. The companies in the sustainable economy sector had a tendency towards climate action, water management, responsible production and consumption, and circular economy. Conclusion. Under a sustainable and circular economy approach, one seeks to use resources in an efficient and regenerative way, reducing waste and pollution to a minimum. This vision coincided with the sustainability initiatives that were observed in the studied Honduran companies.
