Introduction. The pandemic generated by COVID-19 caused a holistic shock to humanity, confronting it with one of the greatest challenges in its history. In response to this, exit strategies were designed and implemented, which have shown favorable results and the current degradation of the COVID-19 pandemic. This may be perceived as "a light at the end of the tunnel." The aim of this revision was to analyze the exit strategies and circumstances faced in the degradation of severity and end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods. Research carried out based on a literature review in journals indexed in world scientific databases. Discussion. Among the main results, the abrupt cessation and crisis of economic activity was described, as well as the design and implementation of disruptive and replicable exit strategies that led to the formal declaration of the cessation of the pandemic. Conclusion. The complications generated, the exit strategies and the perceived cessation of the pandemic established lessons for the agents. This was not exclusively at the health and economic levels, but also in the social and perspective of life in contemporary human beings.
