Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present an analytical framework for the study of the academic community in the context of the university. Integrating two approaches, one policy where defined, from the theoretical and empirical review, the structural components of a community, such as: academic work, academic freedom, academic ethos and academic culture. Moreover, from an interpretative approach interested to analyze how members of a community build their understanding of the defined structural components. Finally, from the articulation of the two approaches, it seeks a comprehensive understanding of how the structural components are configured in an academic community, which is inserted into a university that follows a professionalizing model.
