The impact of the law about the great interoceanic channel of Nicaragua among the indigenous and afro-descendent people of the country

This article analyzes the impact of the law about the Great Interoceanic Channel of Nicaragua with respect to the human rights of the indigenous and afro-descendant people, taking into account the characteristics of the sui generis legal status of these two categories of citizens. It describes the legal actions presented by these peoples before the Nicaraguan Supreme Court of Justice and its results. Finally, it analyzes the immediate consequences of the law for the inhabitants and authorities of the Rama-Kriol territories, including the way in which the natural resources will be affected, and the actions presented by these authorities before the InterAmerican Commission of Human Rights.
